L. Leo Judice Environmental Sciences Elementary

A Small School with a Big Heart

L. Leo Judice Elementary, a Project Learning Tree certified school, is located in Scott, and is one of the smaller campuses in the School System. We think this smaller learning community provides a personal, nurturing environment for our students.

We currently host students in grades Kindergarten through 5th, however, the number of classes will be limited, to keep L. Leo Judice a small school.

Environmental Sciences: Cultivating Children's Natural Desire to Learn

We LOVE learning at L. Leo Judice, and we think it should be interesting, engaging and fun! And our Environmental Sciences helps makes that possible. Our school includes a Nature Explore Certified Outdoor classroom which gives our students a unique opportunity to learn about the environment in a hands-on atmosphere. Other learning areas are setup throughout the campus.

Grade level environmental science themes provide students with opportunities to explore organisms, habitats, wetlands, and other ecosystems. Our teachers have attended trainings and workshops to incorporate nature into all areas of the curriculum which can be seen in all of our classes from Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Living and of course, Science.

Everyday is Earth Day at L. Leo Judice

In addition to our annual Earth Day celebration, L. Leo Judice incorporates other Earth Day items to promote positive uses of our resources. A schoolwide recycling program encourages our students and staff the positive benefits of recycling. Our 5th grade has a garden club and is also active in various environmental projects including LSU AgCenter/Master Gardener School Garden Initiative, LSU Coastal Roots program and the Youth Wetland program.

Our classrooms serve as a library or resource room for the projects and studies of the children as they follow their interests. The children acquire knowledge by using materials designed to enhance conceptual thinking and abstraction, as opposed to the old memorization-regurgitation process of the traditional classroom.

Pathway Focused

Students who attend L. Leo Judice in 4th and 5th grades will be eligible for pathway priority to the Environmental Sciences Academy at Lafayette Middle or the Biomedical Academy at Carencro Middle. Pathway priority is only available to students who complete their application process before January 31.
